Other works on the program include 2 more works by New York Women Composers—Rain Worthington’s “Duet for a Duo”, Chen Yi’s “Three Bagatelles from China West”, together with works by Franz Doppler, Léo Delibes and Thomas Morley.
New York Premiere:
Slovenian composer Anže Rozman’s work “The Two Rivers”—being premiered in New York in this concert was originally written for Slovenian flutist Matej Zupan and Croatian flutist Renata Penezic. The intertwining undulating melodies of the two melodic flute lines evoke the feeling of the flowing water of the two rivers.
World Premiere:
Composer Marilyn Bliss, the President of New York Women Composers wrote “It Was the Wind” originally for Native American flute with voice. Arranged for this program for Native American flute with Alto flute, the work is a setting of an evocative Navajo text.
Composer Victoria Bond’s new version of her work “Woven” (originally for two violins) arranged for 2flutes. Bond applies the principle of interwoven strands of colored thread to the interwoven musical lines in all 4 movements.
Program made possible in part by a Seed Money Grant from New York Women composers.
